This is actually our favourite recipe for an easy drinking martini: 5:1. We prefer Sky Wave Signature London Dry Gin, Lillet Blanc (as the 'vermouth'), and Sky Wave Grapefruit Bitters. And we stir, not shake. So, to be honest, apart from the ratio, perhaps nothing like this at all!

Fabulous! Love the citrus hit. Definitely stirred - no syrups or other unctuousness to contend with. We see what you mean about the similarity - texture and herbal notes - with a Corps Reviver No 2, but without the absinthe, which some will find a bonus.

Delicious, but Simon is correct about the grenadine. If yours is not premium, this cocktail can taste one-dimensional. If necessary, add a little more.

Loved this! We made it with Sky Wave Old Tom Gin and Sky Wave Grapefruit Bitters (because we make them!), but everything else was as per the recipe. It was fabulous!

Thanks Simon. A well written article as always - and great to hear someone saying that you should take it as you like it rather than prescribing a 'standard' way. I agree that for recipes with less vermouth, shaken works - although it does affect the beautiful clarity of the drink by introducing air bubbles.
