Dangerously smooth! I used 114 proof rye and it's still mellow enough to drink easily. I don't think it's necessary to use a nicer Cognac like 1738, due to all the other ingredients imparting their own flavors. Drink it slow and enjoy.
3.5/5 for me on this one. Very unique flavor and obviously very rich and heavy. I used Luxardo amaretto instead of Disaronno due to availability, so perhaps this was a mistake, but i think a little less amaretto would balance the primary (orange and almond) flavors better. I can imagine this is a great drink if you want to make a single cocktail and slow-drink it. With that said, the nutmeg dusting is a highlight, almost a requirement for me, and firmly puts this drink in the dessert category
Oh it turns out that instead of simple syrup, I used this herbal chinese medicinal concoction that my girlfriend's mother made for me. It's supposed to be helpful for alleviating a pinch nerve, but it certainly not a good sub for sugar water. Going to try this one again tonight with the right ingredients this time. Cheers!
