Brewed with roasted barley malt. After primary top and secondary fermentation, this Flanders red ale-style beer is matured in oak barrels for 18 months before being blended with 8 month old beer and bottled without pasteurisation.
The beer's name honours Duchess Mary of Burgundy (1457-1482) whose image features on the bottle's label. Duchess Mary was the only child of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, and was the heiress to the vast Burgundian domains in France and the Low Countries after her father's death in the Battle of Nancy on 5 January 1477.

(sample best before 11-Jul-14) Clear, dark red-brown with one finger thick beige head and spotted lacing.
Flat coke-like nose with cherry fruit, balsamic and faint hickory smoke aromas.
Sweet 'n' sour, cherry fruit palate with aged balsamic and barbeque sauce flavours. Very interesting flavours but only those who have acquired a taste for this distinctive beer will finish a bottle, let alone seek a second.
Slightly tart cherry jam, cigar and oak finish.
