Originally called Jameson XO, this blended Irish whiskey was launched in 1996 for Asian travel retail. Gold Reserve includes whiskies aged in virgin American oak barrels and is a blend of three different pot still whiskeys and one grain whiskey.

The grain element is mainly aged in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels with a little bit of virgin oak. The pot still whiskies include one aged 8 to 10 years in virgin oak, one aged 10 to 20 years in a combination of first-fill and refill ex-bourbon barrels and another aged 10 to 12 years in sherry butts.

Billy Leighton, Jameson’s Master Blender says Jameson Gold has a distinctive new leather characteristic. “It’s just like the smell that hits you when you walk into a shoe shop. There is nothing we’re putting in there that tastes of leather. It’s how all these things work together, it’s is greater than the sum of its parts.”
