Roth vodka is made from six varieties of grape grown in Sonoma County, California, including French Colombard and Chardonnay. The grape juice is blended and fermented for about six days before being passed through a continuous copper still five times over a ten-day period.

The distillate is reduced to bottling strength and charcoal-filtered.

Launched late 2005, Roth is the brainchild of Ted Simpkins, co-proprietor of Lancaster Estate, a winery in Sonoma County. Roth is marketed as a Californian vodka distilled from grapes and is particularly aimed at wine lovers, with $1 for every case of Roth vodka sold donated to the American Guild of Sommeliers Education Foundation.
