Like other malts in the Wemyss range, this 8-year-old vatted malt's name is inspired by its flavour. Hive, which was blended with the help of whisky writer Charlie Maclean, does indeed exhibit some honeyed sweetness on its palate with the malts used in the blend sourced from the Speyside region.

Launched in April 2012, this follows The Hive 12-year-old, launched in 2011.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 14/04/2012

Appearance:

(bottling date: Nov 2011) Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Chamois leather, honey and vanillins with lightly spiced gentle oak.

Taste:

Faintly vegetal influenced delicately spiced oak with a touch of the promised honey flavour and sweetness. Cinnamon, nutmeg and sweet ginger and drier oak notes emerge when held.

Aftertaste:

Buttery oaky finish with notes of honey flavour rather than sweetness and gentle lingering spice.
