This seasonal beer from the Arbor Ales (brewed April-May) is brewed using Munich, Mild ale malts with wheat, chocolate, black and crystal malts. The hops used are Bramling Cross. Bottle conditioned so stand upright to allow yeast to settle. Oh, the brewers would prefer you not to refrigerate.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 30/07/2012

Appearance:

(bb Nov-12) Almost opaque, very dark reddy-brown, almost black with a thin tan head.

Aroma:

Nutty, charcoal and black strap molasses with heavily roasted coffee and dark bitter chocolate.

Taste:

Mocha coffee and heavily roasted-slightly burnt sooty malt.

Aftertaste:

The brewers say that the use of Bramling Cross hops gives “a small blackcurrant edge to the aftertaste”. They’re right, with charcoal blackened toast.
