A classic Spanish "ponche" liqueur resplendent in the traditional silvered bottle, and made with Spanish brandy and a maceration of: sweet Andalusian orange peel, raisins, plums, almond kernels, vanilla pods, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.

Produced in Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), Spain, since 1830, Ponche Caballero is one of Spain's best-selling liqueurs.

Classically served on the rocks with an orange zest twist or, as is popular in southern Spain, with cola.

History
José Cabaleiro do Lago and his family lived from their oak timber business in Galicia, until 1830, when José decided to move to Chipiona to specialise in the supply of oak to be made into casks for the sherry industry. Over the years, started barrel-ageing wine, brandy and punch. It was the punch that took off, launching his Ponche Caballero legacy.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 08/01/2026

Appearance:

Clear, bright copper amber with polished bronze highlights.

Aroma:

Pungent, Mandarin and Naval orange zest with vanilla, stewed raisins, almond and cinnamon.

Taste:

Sweet zesty orange zest with generous vanilla, warm cinnamon spice, raisin and plum fruit.

Aftertaste:

Lingering zesty orange, vanilla and cinnamon spice.

Overall:

Initially sweet, but after a few sips, this rich orange zesty vanilla liqueur appears balanced by cinnamon spice. One of the great classic orange liqueurs.
