Conceived over a dinner in 2011, this unique beer contains 9 different malts including Pale Maris Otter and Roasted Barley; Chinook and Brambling Cross hops combined with Muscavado sugar; Madagascan Bourbon vanilla pods and coffee blends and was aged in a 1985 Caol Ila Barrel Scotch whisky cask.
Sampled on 30/08/2012
(best before 31-Dec-13) Opaque pitch black with a small, quickly disappearing, tan head.
Espresso coffee, burnt toast and roasted nuts with liquorice and bourbon-like spirit notes.
Heavily roasted-slightly burnt malts, slight smokiness and bitter stewed coffee with pronounced whisky character.
Burnt toast/charcoal finish with lingering bitter espresso and whisky. Imperial Stout devotees will admire while most will find unpalatably powerful.
