Named after a Benedictine monk, Saint Amatus, a bishop who fell into disgrace and was exiled, dying in 690. Oostvleteren in Belgium is the only parish to patron St Amatus as a saint. It is also where, since 2009, Struise brew this beer in their micro-brewery. Hard to come by outside of Oostvletern.

Cloudy dark chesnut brown, almost opaque, with one finger beige head and spotted lacing.
Vinous fruit, heavily toasted malt with charcoal, chocolate and liquorice.
Bitter sweet liquorice note is pleasingly evident on the full-bodied slightly sweet toasted malt and bitter chocolate palate. The incredibly high alcohol strength is surprisingly not so obvious but coupled with the richness stops ST.A No.25 being a session beer.
Charcoal toasty chocolaty malt. A dessert-style ale for aficionados.
