Named after the 18th century ancestor of the Wemyss family who produce this blend. Lord Elcho, eldest son of the 5th Earl of Wemyss, supported Bonnie Prince Charlie and fought at his side in vein during the Battle of Culloden leading to his being stripped of his title and lands and exiled to France.

Each whisky in this blended Scotch whisky is aged a minimum of 15 years and Wemyss say there is “an emphasis on malt whisky matured in sherry casks."

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 24/09/2012

Appearance:

Clear, light coppery amber.

Aroma:

Dried apricot fruit, Christmas cake and Christmas spice with clove infused linseed oil and faint toffee/fudge.

Taste:

Rich, fruity and spicy with just enough dry sandlewood, bitter almond and tea-like tannins to add balance and depth.

Aftertaste:

Long, rich, spiced finish. Overall just a tad too spicy but a most pleasing dram all the same.
