This herbal liqueur is said to have been made by the Borgmann family for over 100 years. The family traces its origins as court apothecaries back to 1772 and their appointment as official purveyor to the court by the Duke of Brunswick, Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand.

The 1772 date and the family’s emblem form part of the brand’s logo but the present formulation by Mr and Mrs Borgmann dates from 1976. The aluminium bottle’s contemporary appearance was introduced in 2006, when the liqueur was first commercially launched in Germany. Berlin based artists, designers and musicians are invited to design limited editions of the distinctive 50cl bottles with only the logo, emblem, bottle shape and the contents remaining constant.

The liqueur’s ten day production process uses herbs and spices (including cinnamon, clove, bitter orange peel, cinnamon, cloves and cinchona bark), according to a secret recipe passed down from generation to generation of the Borgmann family. The liqueur is blended, filtered and bottled by hand.

This limited edition (released autumn 2013), No. 8 ‘Super Blast’ was designed by Sonder, a Berlin artist known for representing traditional sacred images and icons in a postmodern context. Previous editions were as follows:

General Edition No. 0 – General Edition
Limited Edition No. 1 – by Floor5 Design & Creative Studio in Berlin.

Limited Edition No. 7 – Dot To Dot, the bottle is illustrated with an image made from a part completed dot-to-dot drawing.
