No.1 Lakeland Gin was launched in 2012 by two friends, designer Tim Moor and drinks industry veteran Nick Dymoke-Marr. Their gin is marketed around the Cumbrian Lake District and is named after, and draws its water from under Skiddaw Mountain in Cumbria, the fourth tallest mountain in England.

A borehole taps into an aquifer under Skiddaw to draw water that has been filtered through layers of black slate and it is this slate which inspired the textured and contoured bespoke bottle. An extra contour on the front of the bottle matches the profile of Skiddaw.

Distillation of the gin uses Skiddaw water and is outsourced to G&J Distillers in Warrington. Here English wheat neutral grain spirit is distilled with 11 botanicals, unusually including oak bark collected from 100 year-old oak trees in the Lake District Park. After distillation the gin is shipped to Leeds to be bottled by Allied Glass Containers.
