Made according to Anton Rutte's 1918 handwritten recipe and launched as "Rutte Old Tom" just over a century later in 2019. Based on grain neutral alcohol redistilled with seven botanicals, including juniper, lemon, ginger, cinnamon, orange leaves and wormwood.
A splash of malt wine makes Rutte Old Tom a genever rather than a gin and Myriam Hendrickx, Rutte's Master Distiller, describes this "as a cross between a fresh, young genever and a classic gin."

(sample bottle batch 01) Crystal clear.
Piney juniper and freshly baked doughy brown bread with cinnamon spice and zesty citrus.
Dry with a faint touch of sweetness. Assertive juniper pine with rounding bready maltiness, enlivened with cinnamon, ginger and zesty citrus.
Cinnamon spiced bready pine with zesty citrus.
The edition of malt wine and the low alc./vol. mean this cannot be considered a gin, old tom or otherwise, while generous juniper sets this apart from other genevers. Hence it is an "Old Tom Genever" and it works brilliantly in a Martinez.
