This porter-style ale commemorates The Blues, a notorious gang of smugglers who operated for over fifty years in Kent and Sussex before their eventual capture and transportation to Australia.

Appropriately, this Sussex brewed dark ale is hopped with Phoenix and Goldings hops grown in Kent and transported across the county border.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 06/11/2020

Appearance:

Almost opaque, deep mahogany brown, almost black with thin tan head.

Aroma:

Roasted coffee, chocolate and smoky bacon. Faint raspberry and liquorice.

Taste:

Medium-bodied. Attractive smoky bacon and grassy hop bitterness with earthy cocoa and a hint of heavily roast coffee.

Aftertaste:

Lightly smoky mocha coffee.

Overall:

This porter-style ale has an attractive smokiness and just enough bitterness to balance rich chocolaty malt.
