This absinthe-based chocolate liqueur is said to be inspired by a hand-written recipe for crème de cacao discovered in recipe book dating back to the 1920s at the distillery where La Maison Fontaine absinthes are made. Made by infusing chocolate in absinthe and first released in January 2012.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 01/12/2014

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber with burnished copper.

Aroma:

Clean fragrant dried wormwood with faint dark chocolate.

Taste:

Slightly sweet, but dry for a liqueur with cleansing wormwood herbal forest floor and delicate milk chocolate.

Aftertaste:

Chocolate all but disappears with long lingering herbal finish.
