The most noted of the numerous spirits and liqueurs produced by the monks of Pleterje Charterhouse, a Carthusian monastery in the town of Pleterje in the Slovenian region of Dolenjska, in the foothills of the Gorjanci mountain, close to the Croatian border.
The Carthusians are a Catholic order and the mother monastery of Pleterje is the Grande Chartreuse in France, also famed for their liqueur making. This pear eau-de-vie has been made at the monastery since 1954 with fruit grown in the monastery's orchards.
The southern side of the wall surrounding Pleterje Carthusian Monastery is planted with pear trees and when the fruit reaches hazelnut size, bottles are fixed to the trees so that the pears grow and ripen inside the glass. After the pears are picked inside their bottles, the bottles are topped up with quadruple distilled pear eau-de-vie.

Clear, very faint green tinge. A whole pear sits preserved by the spirit in the bottom of the bottle.
Pear skin and pear flesh with white pepper spirit, toast/old wood, faint cut grass and fruity esters.
Characterful, rustic styled eau-de-vie with good pear fruit character. Faint notes reminiscent of toasted bread and cut grass with white pepper spice.
Pear skin and lingering black pepper spice.
