Rum Montero distillery was founded in 1963 by Don Francisco Montero Marti. In 2007, Joaquín Martín Montero, nephew of the founder and director of the last sugar cane cultivator in Europe and the only molasses distillery in Spain, purchased the Ron Montero distillery. His daughter, Andrea Martín Targa now manages the distillery.
