Aged in barrels that were previously used to age Ransom Old Tom Gin for 3 to 6 months, itself developed in collaboration with the revered drinks historian and author David Wondrich. Based on glycerine and flavoured with “oil of bitter orange terpeneless, gentian and other natural flavours.”
Incidentally, Ransom Old Tom is flavoured with six botanicals: juniper, coriander seeds, cardamom, angelica root, orange peel and lemon peel

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 04/06/2013

Appearance:

(“Oaken maturity achieved 2013”) Cloudy (muddy) amber.

Aroma:

Pungent waxy naval and mandarin orange zest with faint orange flower water.

Taste:

Intense orange zest oil with pine, citrus and gentian bitterness.

Aftertaste:

Very long bitter zesty finish. Fresh and intense bitter orange without the barky notes found in many other orange bitters.
