Milsean (pronounced 'Meel-shawn') from the Scots Gaelic for 'sweet things' is the seventh release in Glenmorangie's Private Edition collection. It is the first Glenmorangie expression to be finished in heavily toasted Portuguese red wine casks.
The whisky was first matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks before being moved to casks which had previously contained Portuguese red wine. Unusually, prior to being filled with the whisky, the ends were removed from the Portuguese casks and these were heavily re-charred to caramelise the red wine, so enhancing the sweet candied notes of this Glenmorangie. Of the 269 Portuguese wine casks originally filled, 154 casks were selected to comprise the final blend, producing 5,000 nine-litre cases of Milsean.
Previous releases in Glenmorangie's Private Edition rage include Sonnalta PX Finealta, Artein, Ealanta, Companta and Tùsail.

Clear, golden amber.
New leather, honeyed toasty oak, nutmeg, vanilla, ripe orchard and candied fruit with sherbet lemon, banana chews and black currant. Faint aniseed and pear drops. With water, more candied fruit and boiled sweets (hard candy).
Slightly sweet with an almost chewy mouthfeel. Buttery vanilla, leather and honey with mild chilli heat, cinnamon and nutmeg spice. Zesty orange and berry flavoured boiled sweets (hard candy), banana chews, Galia melon, mango and coconut water. Water amplifies toasty almond biscuit and spice notes.
Long and spicy with ginger, sweet rolling tobacco, tropical fruit, charcoal and toasty almond biscuit.
Slightly sweet, spicy and very fruity with the candied notes suggested by the stripped packing, but also with a complexity that will appeal to aficionados.
