Antica Ricetta Barolo Chinato is an aromatised wine made by infusing quinine, gentian, rhubarb root, cinnamon and other aromatic botanicals in grape neutral alcohol. This infusion is then added to Barolo wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes and the blend matured in small oak casks for up to 6 months.

This Barolo Chinato is packaged with its tall slim bottle packed in a cardboard tube and finished with a driven cork and a replacement stopper cork strung on its side. I would recommend you use a rubber vacuum seal stopper instead.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 22/01/2013

Appearance:

Red garnet.

Aroma:

Earthy, spicy, wine aroma with quinine and cinnamon.

Taste:

Complex and velvety, fruity, yet spicy and slightly bitter with quinine, camphor, liquorice, tar, rose, dried fruit and eucalyptus.

Aftertaste:

Lingering quinine, tobacco, liquorice, clove and cinnamon leave a dry finish rather than the sweet fruitiness of regular dessert wines.
