Cognac Ferrand's innovative owner Alexandre Gabriel, followed an old recipe and modified it to create this curaçao. While Curaçao and sweet oranges are the main ingredients, vanilla, prunes and lemon peel are amongst the other botanicals called for in the old recipe.

Alexandre has kept the sugar content to a minimum for a truly 'dry curaçao' at just 180 grams per litre.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 11/12/2021

Appearance:

Clear, bright golden amber

Aroma:

Mandarin (small sweet orange) zest with lemon zest and vanilla influenced stewed fruit aromas.

Taste:

Slightly sweet, but beautifully balanced and far from cloying. Zesty orange with vanilla, rosewater-like floral flavours, delicate cinnamon and black pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

Long, cleansing, zesty orange with enlivening spice.

Overall:

As the name suggests, this curaçao is dry and the minimal sugar content may mean that cocktail recipes designed with a sweeter curaçao in mind are thrown a touch out of balance. That dryness makes this liqueur very quaffable when enjoyed neat as a nightcap.
