La Viæmilia was the inaugural beer brewed at Birrificio Del Ducato. This lager is cellared for at least six weeks, the first week is for primary fermentation and the remaining 4 to 5 for lagering at 3◦C. Hop flowers are added during lagering.

The brewers travel to Tettnang, a small village in the south of Germany each September to select the Tettnang Tettnanger hops they will use for the next year.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 28/02/2016

Appearance:

(sample BB 01/Sep/16) Hazy, golden amber with a quickly diminishing white head.

Aroma:

Subdued, cereal and white bread with lemon zest, grass and faint honeysuckle floral notes.

Taste:

Dry, piney hops with white bread crust and overripe banana.

Aftertaste:

Grass and pine hops on a dry but faintly honeyed finish.

Overall:

This Italian pilsner has attractive overripe banana fruitiness set against dry piney and grassy hops with good cereal character and a creamy mouthfeel.
