Your Disco Edition Cocktail should crave instant attention and be balanced and delicious. Think bright colours, disco balls and fun.

From the 1950s' Blue Hawaii, the 1980s' Sex on the Beach, through to the 2002 Porn Star Martini, Disco Drinks are back.

Bols is challenging professional bartenders to create Blue Disco cocktails that have a modern twist to lift the category from the cocktails of the 1970s into today's bartending era.

How to take part

• Create a new iconic Disco Cocktail using a minimum of 20ml (⅔oz) of Bols Blue Curaçao, or Bols Blue 1575 Liqueur.
• Any other liqueurs used should be from the Bols portfolio if available.
• Go wild on your ingredients; go colourful on your garnishes. Make your cocktail funky; make it groovy. Just keep in mind that your cocktail must be able to be made anywhere in the world, so it must be easy to replicate.
• Describe your cocktail and why this cocktail is going to be the next Bols Disco Cocktail in no more than 400 words.
• Fill in the short online entry form (available from Blue Monday, 20th January 2025), which will invite you to add your recipe to Difford's Guide before entries close at midnight GMT on 3rd March 2025.
• One entry per person.
• Cocktails based on less than seven ingredients are preferred, but there is no restriction on the number of ingredients.
• Recipes entered must be expressed in millilitres or fluid ounces with the use of 'dashes' and/or 'drops' limited to bitters, hot pepper sauce and the like. Fruit quantities must also be stipulated, e.g. 'squeeze of lime' is unacceptable.
• Homemade syrups and homemade infusions are permitted. As with other ingredients, when uploading your recipe, please click "Add a new ingredient" and then start typing the name of your ingredient. This will reveal a list of ingredients to select from. If your ingredient doesn't appear on the list, then please click "Can't find an ingredient?" (bottom right of box) and a box will allow you to add your new ingredient.
• Deadline for entries is Monday, 3rd March 2025, so please get your roller disco skates on.

Maximise your points

Your entry will be judged according to the following criteria, and the highest scorers will be invited to Local/regional finals, which will be held from March to May 2025.

• 25 points - taste and aroma of the cocktail (balance, drinkability..)
• 25 points - presentation of the cocktail (blue disco is about looking good and standing out in the crowd)
• 25 points - originality and innovativeness of the cocktail (we are looking for the next blue disco cocktail, the drink of the future)
• 25 points - expression of the spirit (how is Bols Blue used in this cocktail)

Regional finals

The same rules and scoring criteria as above will apply to the Regional Finals, which will be held from March to May 2025 (dates will vary by region).

You will be asked to make and present four servings of your Bols Disco Cocktail in 8 minutes.

Present your cocktail to the judges using your best storytelling skills. Why is your cocktail the next Bols Disco Cocktail? Use your creativity, imagination, props, music, or whatever you need to bring Bols Disco Fever to life.

Local/regional final - End of May - June 2025

Celebration for national winners, who will attend Bols Cocktail Fever in Amsterdam: September 15th - 17th 2025
