Old Thumper was first brewed in late 1979 but lacked a suitable name so a competition ensued in the press and one Joe Leedham from Broadstone, Dorset came up with the title. It was voted Champion beer of Britain by Camra in 1988.

Clear, copper amber with minimal white head.
Malty nose with honey covered tropical fruit and buttery diacetyl and very slight vegetal note.
Pine and herbal hop bitterness balancing sweet honey with cacao and coffee makes for a well-balanced palate.
Slight herbal note (thyme?) to the finish with lingering hop bitterness.
