Matured predominantly in European and American sherry seasoned oak casks, the first distillery bottling of Highland Park single malt was as a 12-year-old. That was back in 1979 and it remains the core expression of what is now a large range of distillery bottlings.

The "Viking Honour" sub-brand was added in 2017.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, mid-deep golden amber with burnished gold highlights.

Aroma:

Lime blossom, lime zest, leather and heather honey with faint wisps of smoke. Quince and pear emerge with water.

Taste:

Rich and full-flavoured while also dry and elegant, with a combination of leather, creamy caramel and butterscotch, lightly honeyed apple or pear, garnished with a tiny hint of smoke and cloves. Tart apple and light peaty smoke with water.

Aftertaste:

Another flourish of flavours with a hint of iodine and peat with lingering gentle smoke.
