Spirit of Broadside is a beer eau-de-vie distilled from Adnam's Broadside beer in January 2011 and then aged for 12 months in heavily toasted Russian oak casks in the brewery's cellar.

Adnams first brewed its Broadside beer in 1972 to commemorate the tercentenary of the Battle of Sole Bay, a bloody naval battle fought just off the coast of Southwold. Adnams Spirit of Broadside will be launched on 28-May to coincide with the 340th anniversary of the 1672 battle which marked the start of the third Anglo-Dutch War.

Clear, coppery amber with thin slow falling tears.

Μύτη:

Initial bread dough-like whiff of new make spirit gives way to old wardrobe oak, fruitcake and faint bonfire smoke.

Στόμα:

Smoky heavily oaked palate with generous spice (nutmeg, cinnamon and cardamom) and fainter walnut notes. Best described as being young and precocious.

Επίγευση:

Long, smoky crème brûlée finish with lingering bitter spicy oak.
