Launched in 2012 and made by macerating dried blue plums (Szilva) in oak casks containing original Zwack Unicum for six months. The fruit almost dissolves with the little remaining solids filtered out. No sugar is added, the only sweetness in the product comes from natural sugars in the fruit.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 05/08/2013

Appearance:

Clear, deep reddish brown.

Aroma:

Pungent herbs and stewed fruit, plum and prunes with anise, liquorice and sarsaparilla.

Taste:

Bittersweet with sweet fruit taking the edge of aggressive herbal spice. Sarsparilla, cacao, liquorice and anise with citrus and chilli-heat.

Aftertaste:

Hot spicy (black pepper and chilli heat) stewed fruit finish. Despite the addition of fruit this latest Unicum product remains medicinal in style.
