Said to be made using “a traditional Devon farmhouse recipe”, “wild hand-picked sloes are steeped in gin, then after 6 months or so they are extracted and immersed in a still West Country cider. The resulting liqueur is cold-filtered, producing this unique drink”.

“This liqueur can be drunk neat or simply mixed with tonic, soda water or lemonade.” “In winter mull it with a little sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a slice of apple or pear for a warming winter noggin.”

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 23/06/2017

Appearance:

Clear, light tawny red.

Aroma:

Baked apple, stewed apple, sloe berries and floral botanicals.

Taste:

Bittersweet sloe gin, baked apple and light spice. Dry and lacking the high sugar content found in many of its counterparts, so has a comparatively thin mouthfeel.

Aftertaste:

Dry, sloe gin-like finish.

Overall:

“Slider” suggests ‘cider’ and indeed notes of sloe gin and baked apple heavily influence this fruit cup. As enjoyable neat as it is with 2 parts lemonade over ice – as recommended by its makers.
