Distilled in Durham, North Carolina, Conniption Kinship Gin obtains its distinctive indigo hue from an infusion of butterfly pea flowers. Hence, when this gin is mixed with citrus juice in cocktails, its colour changes from indigo to shades of blue and pink due to the change in pH.

Conniption Kinship Gin is based on a gin vapour-distilled with juniper, Indian coriander, cardamom, liquorice root, angelica root and bitter orange. Separately, fresh orange and lemon peels, honeysuckle flowers and peeled ripe cucumbers are infused in neutral spirit and distilled using 'cold' reduced pressure distillation. These distillates are then blended and hydrated with deionised water. Finally, the gin is infused with butterfly pea flowers which impart an indigo hue.
