Review

A local's bar with raw industrial decor serving well-made cocktails, craft beers on draught and tasty bourbon spiced nuts.

Early 90s hip hop fills the atmosphere, dimly lit with Edison filament bulbs. A rope strung ceiling meets bare cement walls rising from a concrete floor. The look is raw and there's a noticeable lack of art on the sparse walls. Windows look out onto the busy Market Street crossroads with car headlights flashing across the room as they make the turn. The overall feel, and indeed the atmosphere, is slightly cold.

The nine strong cocktail menu is secured to a heavy steel sheet by thick rubber bands with an impressive line-up of beers, both draught and bottled. Drinks such as the Grand Pal
(rye, Gran Classico bitter, dry vermouth and sherry) are efficiently and well executed. The vast array of liquor four bottles deep on the long back bar shelves is amongst the best in the city.

Don't bother dressing up. Or if you do don't look as if you've tried too hard. Like the interior décor the style here is urban. You'll find a youngish crowd that's remarkably straight compared to neighbouring bars in the Castro.
