The term schnapps traditionally suggests a clear, strong spirit. However, in recent years the term has come to refer to sweet liqueurs of only 20-24% alc./vol., bearing no resemblance to the strong dry schnapps from which they take their name. I’ve added the term ‘liqueur’ in this guide to help make the type of vanilla schnapps called for more obvious.
