The various editions of the book leave a literal paper trail of my learnings. Shaking adds beneficial dilution and aeration. Adding a splash of water, as per above, also works well and produces a better-looking drink. Shaking produces a less attractive cocktail that arguably tastes more alive.
Would it be possible to note in the conversation when you vary the recipe? The community feedback is an extremely valuable part of the site, but only when we know which comments relate to the *current* recipe.
I've been thinking it would be nice to have a "change history" for cocktails that have been tweaked. In addition to being able to tell which version a comment is referring to, it's also just interesting on its own to see how a recipe has evolved.
You make a good point, Mike. I have been guilty of revisiting and reworking the proportions of this cocktail, and I should have left a digital trail in addition to the paper trail in our book.
