Circling back to this six months later, had both a Rutte Old Simon and Old Duff version. Latter much sweeter and ‘Manhattan-like’, added 3ml dry vermouth to balance it, maybe even 5ml could work…

Actually it reminds me of eating fresh sourdough with lashings of butter and jam or marmalade - one of my all time favourite things.

Yeah this version really the business. Fruity bitter-sweet, perfectly balanced by the maltiness of the genever. Wow. Intense and deep, without being overly boozy.

Actually getting thy ODG to Australia was a nightmare and I ended up paying the import duty myself, but of course it’s something pretty special. Only 30ml in this recipe means it will last longer!
