Best made with a bottled-in-bond rye whiskey but also works well with bourbon. Depending on your whiskey and grapefruits, you may want to omit or even...
I made this with Dolin dry, and I was pretty disappointed. It starts nicely enough, with a sort of slightly herbal whiskey note, but I found the finish to be almost unpleasant. It resolved in a bitterness that distracted from, rather than added to, the overall experience. I will stick to a Brown Derby next time I'm in the mood for a whiskey and grapefruit combo.
Wasn't what I was expecting. Interestingly enough, this cocktail tastes like a light bodied crisp white wine, very refreshing. The vermouth takes the lead here, and I suppose in Texas fashion, whips the whiskey into shape
