This is a very delicately balanced cocktail. I agree that the correct measurement is the key to this. I definitely taste the Creme de Violette. I pick up the Absinthe by smell, but not really by taste. The lemon gives it a tartness and the sugar syrup and chilled water take off the sharp edges.
Excellent cocktail for a warm August afternoon. You can taste all the ingredients and the colour of the cocktail is stunning. Burst of floral with the mint and Violette paired with the herbal from the gin and absenthe. Onto my favourites. Very refreshing in a very sophicated way.
This tasted very "grown up" to me. I don't have much of a sense of smell, and I can't say I have a refined palate, but even I could taste immediately that there was a lot going on here. I got the gin, I got the lemon, I got the mint and the absinthe. I think I got a hint of the violet. It was very well balanced. It's not gong to become a favourite of mine but it was a very interesting drink.
The homeopathics quantities of the extra ingredients really work here - well worth investing in one of Mr Difford’s measures to make sure you’re precise. Adds complexity without hitting you in the face
