I love every single component of this cocktail, but together it's just slightly underwhelming. Maybe I used the wrong port but it's not enough to balance the other ingredients.
I've been making something similar to this for many years. The bar I learned it from considered it a riff on a Manhattan and thus named it the "Port Authority, " which is too perfect a name not to share.
This was a great cocktail. The port basically was there to round out the bite of the bourbon…basically a smooth old fashion (I used a bonded bourbon).
