This subtly mandarin orange-influenced Sweet Manhattan is made drier and all the more complex, not by dashes of bitters, but by a slug of Italian amaro
It's not often you see a Manhattan with a ratio different from the usual 2:1, but I like how this one balances with the orange liqueur. A really awesome variant!
This works for the category. Something -- I'm not sure what -- raises notes of herbal freshness here. Maybe the combination of the orange and the Averna? I , too, subbed Grand Marnier because I didn't have the Mandarine. Would def make again.
