I want to ask a stupid question, do I still need to buy a Calvados if I already have a Laird’s?

That depends on which Laird's you have and what you're after. If you have the bottled-in-bond Laird's on this page, then yes, I'd buy a bottle of calvados. You'll find they are very different brandies.

This is the first applejack or calvados I’ve bought for home but it’s a lot of fun to use in cocktails if you’re the type of person who enjoys brown liquor and apples. It works well for making cocktails ant this % and imparts a lovely apple essence to everything I’ve tried.

You just can't beat this as a uniquely American expression of apple brandy. It's not Calvados and it's not meant to be. For me, so many Calvados taste too intensely of the apple skin (i.e, the part that sensible people peel off and throw out when eating the apple) but this one just has the right touch of the skin for depth and earthiness.
