Perhaps this is the mildest amaro in terms of bitterness that I’ve tried, does not make it less delicious though.

Smooth, sweet, lots of delicious spice - the heat comes in later and finished the taste. Very delicious - but nothing bitter about this "amaro".

I suggest looking for a local distillery. In North Carolina our craft distilleries are amazing (also props to the many, many, many independent breweries). I have a favorite that’s in the mountains, because of their access to so many ingredients provided by nature their fernet and amaros are stellar. I hope you have access to anything local, it’s so worth it.

Hey Felicia, I'm curious of your recommendations for local NC options for various things like Fernet, Amaro Nonino (and possibly Falernum), etc. as someone living in western NC.

I really want to make this drink but it’ll be awhile before I can get my hands on Amaro Nonino. Does anyone know if Averna will be ok?

Amaro Tosolini is nearer to Amaro Nonino in style. Averna has a rounder more caramel note but would be a reasonable stand-in for Nonino in a cocktail.
