Garnish:
Float a fresh pink rose petal on the surface of the drink.
How to make:
Shake over ice. Double strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass.
1 2/3 fl oz | Monkey 47 gin |
1/3 fl oz | The Bitter Truth Crème de Violette |
1/6 fl oz | Monin Rose sugar syrup |
1/6 fl oz | Monin Vanilla Syrup |
1/2 fl oz | Lemon juice (freshly squeezed) |
1 dash | Peychaud's Aromatic Bitters |
Notes:
A Nick & Nora glass works well, as the shape best displays the fact that after serving the drink settles to graduate in colour from warm pink at the base to violet at the top.
Origin:
I always invite a group of women friends to come for cocktails to celebrate International Women's Day. This was a recipe I developed for this event a couple of years ago. I discovered that Simone de Beauvoir had a complicated and passionate friendship with the author Violette Leduc, whom she described as "the most interesting woman I know". Her muse. And I love Crème de Violette, so it all came together.
