Del Maguey sources mezcal from nine family-owned palenques in small villages in Oaxaca. Ron Cooper, Del Maguey's founder, established a close relationship with these families, a relationship continued by Gabe Bonfanti, Del Maguey's Director of Sustainability.
Each family produces mezcal in its own unique way, on different scales, using a wide range of equipment, from clay to copper pot stills. Del Maguey is closely aligned with not just these families but also the villages they live in, funding everything from libraries to mobile telephone masts and internet access. They also bring in experts to help the villages.
