Tried this yesterday to mark VE Day, celebrating the victory while remembering the sacrifices. It was lovely! Certainly not as sweet as imagined it would be with the maple syrup.

I swapped out the sugar syrup and added 10ml Licor 43 for an added vanilla note - lovely!
That I like the sound of. I'll give it a go 😉!
Cocktail is much more mild than I was expecting. There is a definite hint of ginger at the end of the drink, but it is delightfully tart and very easy to drink.
I tasted it before adding the lime and it had such a punch of ginger I was worried about the finished drink. The lime tamed it right down to crouching pose.
Simon, your website is so incredibly interesting. I had no idea about the story behind this rather delicious drink before reading this. It really makes so many cocktails come alive. Thank you!
I have a vested interest in this as my parents bought the house I grew up in from Philby's mother around the time of his defection. They had a hotline to someone high up in case anyone tried to contact or if anything else came to light.
Loved the cocktail. Used a smoky Islay whisky which gave a wonderful smoked lemon flavour.
I love this! I haven't tried making it but the idea has really made us laugh!!
