I’m treating the heat as an excuse to play around with minty flavours.
I had a Four Roses bourbon and the Giffard Menthe Pastille and Combier Triple Sec. For me, the mint overpowered the orange. Maybe 12.5 ml Triple Sec and just 7.5ml Menthe would make the balance perfect? It’s a very smooth sip.
It’s nearly 10pm and it’s still 24 degrees in the back garden. This is a very cooling digestif; a liquid after dinner mint.
I think I still prefer a julep on a hot evening. But this wasn’t a bad way to finish dinner.
Must have got my dashes just right as this was lovely! Perfectly rounded with nothing fighting for attention in the glass.
My rum was Brugal 1888 and the vermouth Del Professore. I see the other tastings were all around winter time, but this was surprisingly light and summery. I’ll make this one again and again.
Diffords book 365 Days of Cocktails has this with (1.5 shots) 45ml each of tequila and GM, 15ml lime juice and no agave, and I have to say, I like it that way very much! Very refreshing for something so potent.
I make this with 2 shots of the gin, 3/4 shot each of apricot brandy and vermouth and 1/2 a shot of lime. No sugar syrup! This is pretty tart, but I love it.
In any bar with the 14 cocktails on the menu above, I think I would always be able to choose a drink that suits my mood. What a skillfully compiled list!
