For many years the preserve only of the Bacardi family, Bacardi 8-Year-Old was first released with a sherry oak finish, as a very limited edition, in 1995 for sale to Cigar Aficionado magazine subscribers. Bottled in a Baccarat crystal decanter it commanded a $400 price tag.
Noting the success of this commemorative release, Bacardi launched this well-regarded 8-year-old variant in late 1996, without the sherry oak finish, Baccarat crystal decanter or the collector's only price tag.
In 2015, as part of a re-branding of the Bacardi range, the name was changed to Bacardi Ocho after the Spanish word for the number eight.
