A festive Belgian Dark Ale brewed mainly Slovenian Styrian Golding and a little Cascade hops.
Sampled on 19/12/2016
(sample bottle BBE 09/17) Clear, deep mahogany brown – almost black with thick, short-lived beige head leaving stopped lacing.
Caramel, vinous berry fruit, chocolate and treacle.
Full-bodied. Heavily roasted barley, chocolate covered burnt toast with charcoal. Rich but with balancing tannins and bitterness.
Slightly sweet with liquorice, burnt malt and light piney hops.
This festive beer is huge in every respect but is not a challenging as its high alc./vol. might suggest. Flavours reminiscent of chocolate covered burnt.
