Like all Pierre Ferrand cognacs, 1840 Original Formula is distilled entirely from estate-grown grapes in the Grand Champagne region.
Alexandre Gabriel of Cognac Ferrand has set out to recreate the style of cognac that would have been used by 19th century bartenders such as Jerry Thomas. They were not using old rare cognacs in their drinks but 'three star' spirits. These were (to quote Cognac Ferrand's press material) "young enough to be lively (and, of course, affordable) and yet darker and richer in flavour, and higher in proof, than the VS cognacs that represent its modern equivalent". Thus to appeal to modern-day mixologists keen to explore classic recipes, Alexandre has worked with cellar-master Christian Guerin and drinks historian David Wondrich to launch this 1840 Original Formula three-star cognac. The final blend is closely modeled on a rare and well-preserved bottle of Pinet-Castillon cognac from 1840, before the phylloxera louse devastated the vineyards of France.

Aparência:
Clear, pale golden.
Aroma:
There's something of a burnt, crème brûlée smell to the nose with heavily roasted coffee and toasted vanilla pods, yet with fresh perfumed, floral jasmine aromas.
Sabor:
A light, buttery palate with fresh green grape and toasted flavours - spicy cedar wood.
Aftertaste:
Long, buttery oak vanilla.
