Launched in March 2019, Libbey’s The Gats glass is the result of a collaboration between the glass company and a bartender, Yochen Verbeeck, from Antwerp, Belgium.

Also available as a 350ml /12oz Collins glass (Libbey call "High-Ball"), The Gats concept emerged as the winning design of the second edition of the Glassology competition in May 2018, with the judges (including yours truly) impressed by both the elegance of the Art Deco-inspired design and back story.

Yochen was inspired by:

• The golden age of Art Deco – seen in the smooth, curved lines and polished surface.
• The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s landmark novel set in the glamourous Roaring Twenties in New York.
• A vase that was always filled with fresh flowers in the house of Yochen’s grandmother.
