Oxney Organic Estate

Oxney Organic Estate, which straddles the Kent and East Sussex border along the Rother River is a modern mixed organic farm with vineyards, arable (mainly cereal) and holiday cottages. Oxney may be the largest organic vineyard in the UK but lies down a narrow lane at the eastern end of Beckley village in East Sussex, between Tenterden and Rye.

The farm

Oxney Organic Estate comprises grassland, arable fields, vineyards and coppiced woods covering 850 acres which slope down to the Rother river valley which dominates the landscape between Rye and Tenterden. The traditional meadows bordering the river flood regularly over the winter and attract a large variety of birds, both migratory and local.

A sustainable and natural approach underpins the whole estate – from generating heat from coppiced wood chip through to natural disease control in the vineyard using wild herbs and plants with no herbicides and pesticides used.
