Luxardo's Maraschino Perla Dry is a Special Reserve limited edition (only 4,999 numbered bottles) to celebrate the company's 200th birthday since being founded by Girolamo Luxardo in 1821 in Zara, an ancient Venetian city on the Dalmatian Adriatic coast.

The most prestigious product in Luxardo's range, this is a special reserve edition of their famous Maraschino liqueur with a higher alcohol content (40%), so a more concentrated flavour, and less sugar.

The previous production of Perla Dry was back in the 1970s and in the past, it was only produced in very limited quantities.

This "Riserva Bicentenary" edition is packaged in the original hand-straw wrapped antique green-blue glass bottle, with the 200-year debossed logo on the neck. The bottle nestles, with a booklet and commemorative pin in a luxurious royal blue leather gift box inspired by the late 19th-century high society travel.

Appearance:

Crystal clear. Viscus and glass coating. (bottle No. 1,560 of 4,999)

Aroma:

Kirsch eau-de-vie, roasted almond, new leather, and peppery spirituous spice.

Taste:

Intensely flavoured with pronounced cherry jam and cherry juice, bitter almond, vanilla and icing sugar. Assertive black pepper spirituous spice.

Aftertaste:

Long maraschino finish with almond and delicately enlivening black pepper spice.

Overall:

The classically styled, vintage-looking packaging with straw-covered bottle helps convey how special this liqueur is. This helps build the anticipation of a very special liqueur. It delivers with all the flavour control knobs turned to max, yet the result is harmonious and balanced. Perla Dry may not boast an age statement but it took 200 years to make something this special.
